Turkish Bread (Pide) Recipe
Ingredients:
3½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1¼ cups warm water
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons plain yogurt (optional)
1 egg yolk (for brushing)
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
1 teaspoon nigella seeds (optional)
Instructions:
In a bowl, mix the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
Add warm water and olive oil, then mix until a soft dough forms.
Knead the dough for about 8–10 minutes until smooth.
Cover the dough and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 220°C (425°F).
Shape the dough into an oval or round flatbread and place it on a baking tray.
Brush the top with egg yolk and sprinkle sesame and nigella seeds.
Bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
Serve warm.
Tip: Turkish pide is a soft, slightly flat bread often topped with sesame and nigella seeds and is traditionally eaten during Ramadan meals in Turkey.
