Buttered Cabbage and Egg Noodles
This simple cabbage and noodle dish is classic comfort food made with only a handful of inexpensive ingredients. Tender buttery cabbage is slowly cooked until soft and slightly caramelized, then tossed with warm egg noodles for a rich and satisfying meal. It’s cozy, filling, and perfect as either a main dish or a hearty side.
Ingredients
8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, divided
1 medium green cabbage (about 2 to 2½ pounds), cored and thinly sliced
12 ounces wide egg noodles
1½ teaspoons kosher salt, plus extra to taste
½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, optional
Instructions
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
Add the egg noodles and cook according to the package instructions until tender.
Drain the noodles and set aside.
While the noodles cook, melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a large deep skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat.
Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet.
Sprinkle in the salt and stir well to coat the cabbage with butter.
Cook the cabbage slowly for about 20 to 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it becomes soft, golden, and lightly caramelized. The longer it cooks, the sweeter and richer the flavor becomes.
Add the remaining 4 tablespoons of butter and stir until melted.
Add the cooked egg noodles to the skillet and toss everything together until fully coated in the buttery cabbage mixture.
Taste and adjust salt if needed.
Serve warm with freshly ground black pepper on top.
