Transform your living room with an Art Deco-inspired chandelier made from everyday materials. This DIY project uses 300 white plastic spoons and a cut plastic water jug to create a stunning, glowing lotus chandelier. It’s an affordable way to add a touch of elegance and artistic flair to your home, making it a conversation starter and a unique piece of decor.

The finished chandelier should be hung in a central location of the living room, perhaps above a coffee table or seating area. Coordinate it with gold or neutral-toned furnishings to enhance its shimmering gold finish. The chandelier’s art deco style pairs well with modern or vintage-inspired decor, adding an elegant and sophisticated touch to the room.

Gold spray paint

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Craft knife or scissors

Light fixture kit with LED bulb

Hanging kit (chain and hooks)

Directions

Cut the top off the plastic water jug using the craft knife or scissors, leaving the bottom half to serve as the base of the chandelier.

Using the hot glue gun, attach the spoons around the base of the jug, starting from the bottom and working your way up. Overlap each spoon slightly to mimic the petals of a lotus flower.

Continue gluing until the entire jug is covered with spoons, ensuring they are evenly spaced to maintain a symmetrical look.

Once the glue has dried, spray the entire structure with gold spray paint. Apply multiple thin coats for an even finish, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next.

Install the light fixture kit inside the jug, ensuring the LED bulb will illuminate the entire structure.

Attach the hanging kit to the top of the jug, securing it firmly.

Hang the chandelier from the ceiling in your chosen location, ensuring it is safely mounted and centered.

Variations & Tips

For a more colorful effect, consider using different colored spoons or applying a gradient of spray paint colors to create an ombre effect. Alternatively, use metallic paints like silver or copper for a different metallic finish. For a larger chandelier, use a bigger jug and more spoons, but ensure the structure remains lightweight for safe hanging. You can also experiment with different spoon arrangements, such as angling them for a more dynamic texture.
