Ideal Weight and BMI
The ideal body weight is different for each person. It depends on several factors such as height, age, gender, muscle mass, and body type. A common way to estimate a healthy weight is by using BMI (Body Mass Index).
What is BMI?
BMI is a simple calculation that compares your weight with your height to see if your weight is within a healthy range.
Formula:
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height² (m²)
BMI Categories
Below 18.5 → Underweight
18.5 – 24.9 → Normal weight
25 – 29.9 → Overweight
30 or more → Obesity
Important Note
BMI is only a general guideline. It does not measure body fat directly and does not consider factors like muscle mass or body composition. For example, people with a lot of muscle may have a higher BMI but still be healthy.
Conclusion:
BMI can help give an idea about whether a person’s weight is in a healthy range, but the ideal weight can vary depending on lifestyle and overall health.
