How to Properly Dispose of Ticks
1. Remove the Tick Safely
Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible.
Pull straight up steadily without twisting or jerking.
Wash the bite area and your hands with soap and water afterwards.
2. Dispose of the Tick
Do not crush the tick with your fingers.
Seal the tick in a plastic bag or container and throw it in the trash.
Alternatively, place it in rubbing alcohol to kill it before disposal, or flush it down the toilet.
3. Optional: Keep the Tick for Identification
If needed, put the tick in a sealed container with the date and location of the bite for later identification by a doctor.
Key Tips:
Never try home remedies like petroleum jelly or burning the tick.
Proper removal and disposal reduce the risk of infection.
