- 1 large head green cabbage
- 200–300 g thick-cut bacon (or bacon strips)
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the cabbage
Remove the outer leaves from the cabbage and cut it into large wedges. - Prepare the bacon
Cut the bacon into thick pieces or short strips. - Layer in the slow cooker
Place the cabbage wedges inside the slow cooker. Scatter the chopped onion and garlic over the cabbage.

- Add bacon
Place the bacon pieces on top of the cabbage wedges. - Season
Sprinkle with salt, pepper, paprika, and thyme. Add the butter. - Add liquid
Pour the chicken broth around the cabbage (not directly on top). - Cook
- Cook on LOW for 6–7 hours, or
- HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the cabbage is tender.
- Serve
Spoon some of the broth and bacon over the cabbage when serving.
Tips
- You can add sliced potatoes or carrots for a fuller meal.
- A splash of apple cider vinegar at the end brightens the flavor.
- Serve with crusty bread or mashed potatoes.
