Slow Cooker Sausages and Onions

There’s something incredibly comforting about coming home to the rich aroma of slow-cooked sausages simmering in a savory onion gravy. This easy crockpot recipe transforms a handful of simple ingredients into a hearty, flavor-packed meal that tastes like it took hours of effort. The sausages become tender and juicy while the onions slowly caramelize, creating a delicious sauce that’s perfect for spooning over mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread.

Ingredients

8 pork or beef sausages

2 large onions, sliced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup beef broth

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Salt and black pepper, to taste

Fresh parsley for garnish

Directions

Step 1: Brown the Sausages

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the sausages on all sides for about 5 minutes. They do not need to be fully cooked at this stage. Transfer them to the slow cooker.

Step 2: Prepare the Onion Mixture

Add the sliced onions to the same skillet and cook for 5 to 7 minutes until they begin to soften. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute.

Step 3: Make the Sauce

In a bowl, whisk together the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, thyme, salt, and pepper.

Step 4: Slow Cook

Step 5: Serve

Once the sausages are tender and the onions are deeply flavored, sprinkle with fresh parsley and serve hot.
