Chocolate Saltine Cracker Toffee Bars

A surprisingly simple dessert made with just a few pantry staples. Crispy saltine crackers form the base, topped with a rich buttery caramel layer and melted chocolate for the perfect sweet-and-salty treat. Similar versions of this recipe are often called “Saltine Toffee” or “Christmas Crack.” �

Ingredients

40 saltine crackers

1 cup (225 g) butter

1 cup brown sugar

2 cups chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.

Arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the bottom of the pan.

In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together over medium heat.

Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it becomes thick and caramel-like.

Pour the hot caramel evenly over the crackers.

Bake for 5–6 minutes until bubbly.

Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot surface.

Let the chocolate sit for a few minutes, then spread it into a smooth layer.

Refrigerate for at least 1 hour until fully set.

Break into pieces and serve.
