Grandma’s Secret Rosebush
A year before my grandmother passed away, she asked me to promise something unusual: one year after her death, dig up her favorite rosebush and move it somewhere safe. At the time, I didn’t understand why, but I promised her.
She also told me that the house would go to my mother and me, and that the lawyer had everything prepared. But after the funeral, my aunt appeared with a different will, claiming the house for herself. We searched for the promised will, but it was gone.
With no proof and facing lawyers, we had no choice but to leave the home we had lived in our whole lives. Soon after, my aunt rented the house to strangers.
Almost a year later, I finally returned for the rosebush. While digging carefully around the roots, my shovel hit something hard. Beneath the bush, I found a small metal box. Inside were a letter from my grandmother and official documents, including the real will.
She had anticipated my aunt’s betrayal and had hidden the proof under the rosebush. With these documents, we were able to claim our rightful home. Replanting the rosebush felt like my grandmother’s love and foresight had protected us, even after she was gone.
