It is a fruit and also a nut that is formed by the water walnut plant \u2013 a water weed that can clog dense waterways. The fruits are boiled and the starchy inner part is eaten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Chinese medicine, this fruit is known for purifying the body. It is rich in potassium, starch and phenolic acids, and has also been shown to have anti-cancer properties and a high content of antioxidants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[adinserter block=&#8221;6&#8243;]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To me, the taste is very similar to cassava and does not look like water chestnut at all, despite the name. A fun and interesting nut to try if you want to diversify your starch sources.
