According to reports, staff members were notified the same day—a trend that appears to be repeating nationwide as the chain scales back operations amid financial turmoil.

The Colonie shutdown is just one example of a broader pattern. Restaurants in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, and Rhode Island also closed abruptly, with employees in several states saying they were informed only hours before operations ceased.

At one location in Warwick, Rhode Island, a sign posted on the door read: “We regret to announce that this location has permanently closed its doors as of Tuesday, April 28th.”

The abrupt nature of these closures has sparked frustration among workers, many of whom say they were given no advance notice or time to prepare.

[adinserter block=”6″]

The closures come months after parent company FAT Brands Inc. and its subsidiary Twin Hospitality Group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on January 26.

At the time, the company emphasized that the move was intended to stabilize operations while restructuring its debt.

“Twin Hospitality plans to use the filings to deleverage the balance sheet, maximize value for its stakeholders, and support the continued growth of its brands,” the company said in a statement.

Executives also reassured customers and employees that operations would continue uninterrupted.

“Throughout the Chapter 11 process, Twin Hospitality expects the brands will remain open and operating as usual and will continue delivering their signature guest experiences.”

However, the recent closures suggest a very different reality, with the brand now rapidly shrinking instead of maintaining stability.

Founded in 1999 by Darden Restaurants, Smokey Bones initially gained popularity as a BBQ sports bar concept offering smoked meats, grilled dishes, and a lively dining atmosphere.

At its peak, the chain expanded to approximately 130 locations across the country. But over time, the company began reducing its footprint as competition increased and consumer preferences shifted.

By 2025, the number of locations had already dropped significantly, with only about 26 restaurants remaining. Even before the bankruptcy filing, the company had started closing underperforming stores, including 15 locations in September 2025.

Now, the pace of closures appears to be accelerating.

Adding to the uncertainty, the company’s website now lists all locations as closed throughout the week, raising concerns about whether any restaurants will remain operational long-term.

The loss of multiple locations — including the last remaining site in Michigan — signals a major contraction for the brand and raises questions about whether Smokey Bones can survive the restructuring process.

While Chapter 11 filings are often intended to help businesses reorganize and recover, the ongoing closures suggest the company is facing deeper challenges.

For employees, the impact has been immediate and personal. For customers, it marks the quiet disappearance of a once-familiar dining option.

As the situation continues to unfold, the future of Smokey Bones remains uncertain—but one thing is clear: the chain’s nationwide presence is rapidly fading.

[adinserter block=”7″]

[adinserter block=”5″] A once-popular casual dining staple is rapidly disappearing across the U.S. as Smokey Bones shutters multiple locations with little warning,…

[1

post-3739","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
